Government officers trained on gender analysis

WINDHOEK, 28 SEP – The Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), recently concluded a five-day training on Gender Analysis and Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB).
A media statement issued by UNDP Communications Consultant, Margretha Kampulu noted that the workshop, which was held from 17-21 September 2018, is a fulfilment of Government’s commitment under the National Gender Policy 2010/2020 and the National GRB Guideline as per the relevant Cabinet decision.
The workshop was attended by representatives from various ministries including the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare; Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry and Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
It was facilitated by gender advisors from the Regional Service Centre based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The workshop aimed to heighten the capacity of government officials specialising in research and child welfare on gender-analysis to enable them to acquire essential knowledge, attitudes and skills to effectively conduct gender-analysis into budget and planning processes using GRB tools, the statement noted.
Furthermore, the training was designed to enhance the capacity of government staff to identify gender issues that lead to gender inequalities, and in return to fulfil the relevant sustainable development targets.
In addition, the training enables the government to accurately design specific interventions in policy, plans and budget priorities to address gender imbalances and poverty.
The statement quoted Gender Equality and Research Director at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Victor Shipoh as encouraging every citizen to make gender issues a priority.
The Directorate of Gender Equality and Research aims to mainstream a gender perspective into new and existing policies, programmes, action plans and budgets across all sectors.
Additionally, it aims to mainstream a gender perspective into new and existing national legislation in all sectors and promote and coordinate the implementation of the National Gender Policy and its action plans.
