Global fund to fight epidemics to support Angola

   LUANDA, Jan. 28-- The chairperson of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Donald Kaberuka, on Monday guaranteed his organization's support to Angola to eradicate these diseases by the year 2030.
   Kaberuka made the statement in the Angolan capital Luanda during his three-day visit to the southern African country, with the presence of Angolan President Joao Lourenco.
   The Global Fund official promised to work with the Angolan government in the fight against the major endemic diseases for the next 10 years, and advised the government to increase the budget and other financing means to support the national health sector.
   The increment of funds will take into account aspects concerning the access to medical assistance, equity, and the establishment of a strong health system, he added.
   A framework agreement between the Angolan government and the Global Fund is expected to be signed on Wednesday as part of the partnership to combat the major endemic diseases.
   The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is an international financial organization created in January 2002, with the aim of raising and distributing resources to prevent and treat these diseases. Xinhua
