ACCRA, Sept. 22– Asamoah Gyan, former captain of Ghana’s men’s national football team, has been appointed the team’s club and player relations manager, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed on Monday.
According to the GFA, Gyan’s role will focus on strengthening relations between the national team, players and their respective clubs, as well as improving player welfare and management.
“As clubs and player relations manager, Gyan will serve as a key liaison between the technical team, players and clubs, facilitate communication around player call-ups and welfare, and provide mentorship and support to the playing body,” said the GFA.
Gyan was first called up to the national team on November 19, 2003, at the age of 17, and retired on May 20, 2019.
During his 16-year spell with the Black Stars, Gyan played at three FIFA World Cups and several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, scoring 51 goals to become Ghana’s all-time leading scorer. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
