Windhoek, Oct. 22 – About 70 000 children received shoes last weekend after the Never Walk Alone charity organizationheld a fund-raising event last Saturday.
The event saw Omshasho chief executive officer King Tee Dee,and founder of project Never Walk Alone, Tim Ekanjo, square up in boxing match at the Windhoek Country Club resort.
The project has announced that it generated N$1 272 542 fromthe event in which tickets were sold out.
Many local artists and South African hit maker Master KGperformed at the event that was packed by entertainment seekers.
King Tee Dee emerged the winner of the boxing match and said although he got a few punches from Ekanjo, and the two put their lives and reputations at stake, it was a worthy fight for theNamibian child.
The further said that the fight was not about winning but about fighting to ensure the barefoot child got shoes and that the Never Walk Alone initiative continues to help less privilegedchildren.
The project yesterday delivered a total of 1 000 pairs of shoes to 10 schools in Nkurekuru circuit and the team wrote on their page: “Like any other Namibian child, these kids have an incredibly high appetite to succeed and we were encouraged by their passion for education”
The Never Walk Alone charity initiative has been praised by President Hage Geingob who congratulated them on their anniversary and for their work in the community.
The initiative announced yesterday that the next hand over of shoes is scheduled for Kunene region in November where a total of 1 273 pairs of shoes will be donated for the Outjo circuit.
Ekanjo said although he lost the boxing match, he was happythat the children had won and that they had done a great job in raising the funds and creating more awareness about the less privileged Namibian child going to school barefoot.
