Oshakati, Oct. 26 – Know your rights but know your responsibilities more.
This was a message given to Ohalushu Primary School pupils by members of the Forum For African Women Educationalists in Namibia (FAWENA) during their monitoring and evaluation visit to the school.
FAWENA is a non-governmental organization founded in 1992 and operating in 34 African countries.
It was formed to increase access to and ensure quality education for girls and women in Namibia.
A total of 30 pupils from Grade 5 to 7 joined the girls club at their school which falls under FAWENA.
Speaking to the pupils, Assistant Programmes Officer Hanna Rooinasie, said they must know their rights, and not be in a hurry to grow up but play more and read their books more.
She said pupils should enjoy the stage they are in now, they must not grow up too fast.
Rooinasie said FAWENA has the girl child at heart and they are passionate about their girls, hence the need to reach out to them in the regions.
“FAWENA is all about empowering and inspiring the Namibian girl child,” she said.
Rooinasie said the FAWENA girls club has so far been launched in more than 40 schools already in the Ohangwena region, with each club having about 20-30 pupils.
Acting principal Cosmos Kauhano said the school is privileged and honoured to have been visited by members of FAWENA, with pupils being given some words of encouragement.
Kauhano said such initiatives need to reach the mass, and urged the FAWENA team to always extend their helping hands to needy schools in order to address challenges faced by a girl child in Namibia.
