Farmer kills rogue lion in Namibia.

WINDHOEK, March 25 -- A desert lion that killed a cow at a farm about 590 km from capital Windhoek was shot dead by a farmer.
The owner, only identified as Samuel of the livestock who gunned down the lion, said in a statement Tuesday that the lion posed a threat to the occupants at the farmhouse.
"The lioness was seen on the cow and shot as a repeat offender as four cows had been lost in succession recently to predation. The Lioness' condition is being described as emaciated," he said.
Environment Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda confirmed the incident, saying this was yet another unfortunate incident of human-wildlife conflict.
"The farmer acted within his rights to kill the lion. He then reported the incident to the officials as provided for in the nature ordinance to report the incidence within 10 days," Muyunda said.
Namibia has recently recorded a sudden spike in such incidents involving elephants, buffaloes and predators, according to the environment ministry. Xinhua
