ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 27 — The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Tuesday reaffirmed the east African country’s commitment to resolving its border dispute with Sudan peacefully.
Dina Mufti, the spokesperson for MoFA, said Ethiopia gives priority to solving its border dispute with Sudan through peaceful means.
However, Mufti insisted that Sudan needs to return to pre-November 2020 border positions with Ethiopia before any meaningful discussions on the two countries’ border dispute can resume.
For Ethiopia to negotiate on the border dispute, the precondition is “Sudan returns to the previous status quo,” Mufti said.
The border area between Sudan and Ethiopia often witnesses armed clashes by militias during the preparation for the agricultural season.
