CAIRO, Sept. 7 — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Monday met with UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Acting Commissioner-General Christian Saunders in Cairo to discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
During their meeting, Abdelatty condemned Israeli attacks on UNRWA facilities, including the Aug. 25 storming and seizure of its Qalandia training center in occupied East Jerusalem, and urged the protection of UN facilities and staff, the ministry said in a statement.
On Gaza, Abdelatty called for full, safe, and sustained humanitarian access and intensified international efforts to ease Palestinian suffering, describing UNRWA as a pivotal actor amid mounting needs, the statement read.
Saunders, in his remarks, outlined UNRWA’s growing operational challenges, the humanitarian conditions facing Palestinian refugees, and the agency’s efforts to maintain services despite funding constraints, it added. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
