CAIRO, Jan. 12 -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi expressed Egypt's keenness to boost cooperation with the European Union (EU) in combating illegal immigration and terrorism, the Egyptian presidency said on Sunday. Sisi's remarks came during his meeting with the visiting President of the European Council Charles Michel, who expressed appreciation of Egypt's efforts in combating terrorism and illegal immigration, the presidency said in a statement. "Egypt looks forward to boosting cooperation with the EU in the fields of combating illegal immigration, terrorism and extremism based on a comprehensive approach dealing with the roots of these challenges," said the Egyptian president. Egypt used to be a favorable destination for illegal immigrants who try to infiltrate into neighboring Libya on their way to Europe. With improved security conditions, Egypt has not recorded any case of illegal immigration from its territories since 2016. Xinhau
