WINDHOEK, Oct. 5 — The winner of the 2023 Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off competition, Ester Silas, has wasted no time in turning her culinary victory into a thriving business venture. Just a month after securing the grand prize of a mobile food trailer at the Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off competition final, the 27-year-old Silas has officially launched her fast-food business.
Based in the Greenwell Matongo suburb of Katutura, Windhoek, Silas has stationed her mobile food truck, valued at N$ 100,000, at her residence with the aim of serving her local community.
On Saturday, September 30th, Silas celebrated the grand opening of her business, surrounded by friends, family, and community members. Expressing her excitement, she stated, “I will work diligently every day to offer a diverse menu that caters to people with different food preferences. Recognizing that entering the market is challenging, I plan to hire additional help on busy days and during peak hours.”
She also outlined her marketing strategy, saying, “The food industry is competitive, so I understand the need to promote my business vigorously through various channels.”
Nedbank Namibia’s Communication and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge, commended Silas for her entrepreneurial initiative. Kaulinge said, “Ester Silas embodies the spirit of the quote, ‘Some people dream of success, while others get up every morning and make it happen.’ The swift launch of her business within a month of winning the ninth edition of the Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off Competition reflects her determination and drive. At Nedbank Namibia, our commitment to being money experts who do good extends beyond financial support to nurturing dreams and fostering growth. Ester Silas is a shining example of this commitment.”
