Chinese national arrested for bribe

ONGWEDIVA, Oct. 12 – A Chinese national was arrested for trying to bribe a police officer on duty with N$200.00 while performing his duties.

According to Naomi Katjiua, Oshikoto NamPol Crime Investigation Coordinator, the officer asked 36 year old Mo Yongmeng, the driver of a vehicle, and 42 year old passenger, Hu Juline to produce passports, but neither complied.

“Suspect placed the money in the hand of the officer in order to let them pass the gate.”

The suspect was promptly arrested, while the passenger has been detained by Immigration Officials for 14 days to provide his passport, failure to do so which will result in a case being opened against the passenger.

Both were said to have come from Windhoek, and were travelling to Ondangwa to conduct business as they are believed to have a construction business. – Maria Abraham
