SWAKOPMUND, December 14– Lukas Ndjamba, a 38-year-old entrepreneur from Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West region, moved to Swakopmund in 2013 for better opportunities. Today, he is a self-employed cameraman, capturing memories for both local and international tourists.
Reflecting on his journey, Ndjamba shared with Namibia Daily News that he initially worked as a manager at an Ackermans franchise clothing store upon arriving in Swakopmund. However, he was retrenched during the COVID-19 pandemic. After receiving his severance pay, Ndjamba invested in a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera, which he now uses to photograph tourists at popular Swakopmund attractions such as the beach, the jetty, and the aquarium. He charges N$10 per photo.
When asked about the difference between working for a retail business and running his photography venture, an upbeat Ndjamba said, “I’m thrilled working for myself. I can wake up on my own time without any pressure. I’ve always wanted to be a photographer, and I look forward to growing my business and eventually opening my studio.”
Known locally as “Lozzy the Photographer,” Ndjamba is passionate about expanding his business and creating employment opportunities for others. He is calling on the public to support his venture.
