CAIRO, May 29– Egyptian referee Gehad Grisha has been suspended after controversy in the first-leg of the African Champions League final, where hosts Wydad Casablanca were denied a penalty and had a goal disallowed, the Confederation of African Football said Tuesday.
“The referees committee of the Confederation of Africain Football has decided to suspend Mr. Gehad Grisha for a period of six months due to his poor performance,” the CAF said in a statement.
The move comes after the Moroccan Football Federation lodged a complaint against Grisha’s decisions during a Friday’s match pitting Wydad against Esperance Tunis, which ended in 1-1 in the first leg.
Grisha ruled out a goal for the hosts, Wydad Casablanca, and later denied them a penalty after VAR replays.
Grisha was a referee officiating the 2018 World Cup in Russia. – XINHUA
