WINDHOEK, Aug. 6 — The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has confirmed the reopening of borders that were closed due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was announced by the ministry’s Executive Director Etienne Maritz on 06 August 2022.
“Good news to all travellers, Namibia and South Africa will reopen the border post-Mata Mata, Vellorsdrift, Sendelingsdrift and Klein Manasse which have been closed since 2020 due to the COVID 19 pandemic,” Maritz said.
Maritz added that the closure of the borders has resulted in trade and significant socio-economic hardship for both countries.
He said reopening is guided by relaxation of protocols governing the management of COVID-19 based on the decrease in the virus infection numbers.
Dobe and Kasika border posts between Namibia and Botswana are also scheduled to open on 06 August 2022.
COVID-19 regulations in different countries are applicable so travellers are urged to observe these regulations.
