KHARTOUM, Nov. 1 — At least 12 people, including children and women, were killed, and several others injured in drone strikes carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting two displacement centers in South Kordofan State, volunteer groups reported on Saturday.
“Yesterday (Friday) evening, the RSF launched a drone strike on a shelter center within the premises of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the city of Kadugli, killing five children,” the Sudan Doctors Network, a volunteer group, said in a statement.
It added that another drone strike targeted a displacement camp in the Al-Abbasiya Tagali area, killing seven people, including children and women, and injuring others.
Targeting civilians and humanitarian organizations “is clear evidence that the RSF is waging a total war against the Sudanese people and deliberately spreading terror and death everywhere,” the statement said.
The Coordination of Resistance Committees in South Kordofan, another volunteer group, confirmed the two incidents.
It added that the drone attack in the Kalba area of Kadugli also injured four people, who had been transferred to nearby hospital for treatment.
In a statement on social media platform X, the IOM said that its former office in Kadugli — now serving as a shelter for displaced families — was hit by a drone on Friday.
“Violence must stop. Civilians must be protected,” the IOM urged. The RSF has not yet commented on the reported drone attacks.
The RSF has recently intensified its use of drones to target military sites and vital facilities in areas controlled by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
Sudan remains engulfed in a devastating conflict between the SAF and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023.
The war has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, plunging the country deeper into a humanitarian crisis.(Xinhua)
