ONAMUTAI, 04 DEC – The Anglican Church of Namibia’s Right Reverend Luke Lungile Pato ordained seven priests and a deacon at a colourful clergy ceremony held at the Onamutai village’s St Cuthbert Parish in the Oshana Region on Sunday.
Hundreds of Anglican followers and clergy of the Roman Catholic and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) sister churches from all over Namibia attended the event, including Presiding Bishop Dr Shekutaamba Nambala of ELCIN.
The church’s local Venerable Tarah Shalyefu told Nampa in an interview on Monday that the ordained priests and deacon will be deployed to different stations and/or centres of the Anglican Church of Namibia.
The seven priests are Jennifer van den Heever placed at St George’s Cathedral in Windhoek; Amenenge Nyati placed at St Matthew’s in Walvis Bay; Petrus Nekwaya posted to Okahandja; Petrus Johannes at Rosh Pinah and Elizabeth Valombola deployed at St Thomas in Oshakati.
Priests Ester Hautoni will be at St Mary at Oranjemund, Joel Shitaleni at St Andrew at Onghala village and Deacon Monica Ndatomwiyo will be stationed at St Mary Odibo in the Ohangwena Region.
Pato, whilst ordaining them said they have taken the authority to preach the word of God and to administer the sacraments.
He also told them that they have a task of promoting unity and peace both in the church and the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah also attended the event and pledged that the government will continue working with the church and all Namibians to bring about prosperity for the nation.
Nandi-Ndaitwah is a member of the Anglican Church and also from Onamutai village. – NAMPA
