KABUL, July 20 — Afghan security forces have dismantled a cross-border arms trafficking, confiscating a cache of weapons and ammunition in eastern Paktia province, the country’s Ministry of Interior Affairs confirmed in a statement on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence tips, security personnel raided a location on the outskirts of Dand Patan district and conducted vehicle checks, uncovering and confiscating 8,000 rounds of MP ammunition, 500 rounds of DShK heavy machine gun ammunition, five pieces of pistols, and 62 rounds of pistol ammunition, according to the statement.
Preliminary findings indicate the weapons and munitions were being prepared for smuggling out of Afghanistan.
No arrests have been made yet, but officials confirm that intelligence sources have identified the suspects, said the statement, adding that they will be apprehended upon completion of the investigation and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
