RUNDU, 22 OCT – Adizonkpak Football Club won the ‘Road to Queensab’ pool and play mini-tournament in Groot Aub on Sunday after defeating United Brothers 1-0 in the final.
Fourteen teams turned up for the mini-tourney hosted as warm-up to the first edition of the annual Queensab Soccer Bonanza that will take place in Groot Aub from 02 to 04 November.
En route to winning the mini-pool, Adizonkpak defeated Mighty Pirates 1-0 in the first match, before dispatching Brothers Reunited 2-0 in a quarter-final match, while United Brothers won 5-4 on penalties against Airport Eagles after a 1-all draw, after which they won 1-0 against Too Much Power.
In the first semi-final, Adizonkpak defeated Morning Stars 2-0, while United Brothers won 2-1 against Uprising Stars in the second semi-final.
Adizonkpak received N$ 6 000, while United Brothers walked away with N$2 400.
Tournament organiser, Rhuuksie ||Garoëb in a media statement Monday said the turnout at the matches prior to the tournament was satisfactory.
“We wanted to give the teams and their supporters a feel for what to expect during the weekend of 02-04 November in Groot Aub. We expect teams from as far as Arandis and Keetmanshoop,” he added.
||Garoëb said the proceeds from the tournament will be used to provide food for pensioners aged 70 and above in December on a date still to be determined, and he called on businesses to support this gesture.
“Not every pensioner has the privilege to have something for Christmas and we decided to give our elders a small token of appreciation so they can at least few food items for the festive season,” he said.
||Garoëb also called on teams to start registering for the tournament as the closing date is 01 November.
The winner will walk away with N$15 000, 20 gold medals and a floating trophy, while the losing finalist will get N$10 000 and 20 silver medals.
The two losing semi-finalists will each walk away with N$2 500.
The best player and goalkeeper of the tournament will get trophies.
Registration per team is N$1 500 and the draw will be conducted on 02 November. On 03 November, a music bash will take place with the likes of Kaptein Tswazi, Kalina, #Nisa Bonny and Wiseman, while upcoming artist RavDaz will also feature.
