OTJIWARONGO, 03 APR – More than 50 young and unemployed residents of Otjiwarongo on Tuesday gathered in Orwetoveni to officially launch their Otjiwarongo Youth Empowerment Association.
The youth association has started gathering information and personal details of the unemployed young people at the town.
Shortly before the launch, they held a three-hour cleaning campaign around the Karundu junior and primary schools as well as the Etambi residential area.
A short presentation of their aims and objectives were made by the coordinator of activities, Kelao Neumbo, during the official launch.
Neumbo said the association will be registered with the ministries of youth and trade as a non-profit organisation.
She said the plan is to create a database of unemployed youth in the Otjiwarongo Constituency, including the talents, skills and qualifications they possess.
“We want to know how many we are in this constituency, and the different skills we have so that when any company wants specific skills or service from us, we are found ready and easy to trace,” she said.
Neumbo also told her peers that the Otjozondjupa Regional Council has shown keen interest in their activities, aims and objectives.
She said a variety of seminars and music shows will form part of the association’s work plan in order to empower and keep its members off the streets.
The new association is technically supported by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology with music sound systems, and it is based at the Otjwarongo Constituency Office.
Neumbo urged all unemployed youth in and around Otjiwarongo to register with the association for free in order to benefit from it.
Members of the association on Tuesday agreed to hold their weekly meetings at the Swanevelder Community Hall, where they will discuss events related to charity and regular cleaning campaigns to keep Otjiwarongo clean.
