Deputy Inspector Shilunga retires

WINDHOEK, MAR. 29 – Major General Desiderius Ireneus Shilunga was replaced on Thursday 29 March by Commissioner Oscar Peter Embubulu as Deputy Inspector-General for Operations by Nampol boss Lieutenant-General Sebastian Haitota Ndeitunga.

Ndeitunga reiterated that Nampol had been honoured and was proud to have had Shilunga among its ranks and benefitted greatly from his leadership and management style.

“We are equally proud of his commitment and dedication to serving the people of Namibia for the last 27 years.”

Turning to Embubulu, Nampol boss Ndeitunga recalled how the new Deputy Inspector-General had joined other Namibians in exhile for the liberation struggle in 1977, where he became a member of the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), studying and obtaining various qualifications from different educational institutions in Angola, Zambia and Europe, prior to his return in 1989.

Ndeitunga highlighted Embubulu’s history starting with his induction into Nampol in 1996 as Deputy Commissioner for Administration at Special Field Force Directorate in 1996.

“In 2000, he served as Deputy Commissioner at Human Resources Directorate; He became the Principal Staff Officer in the Office of the Inspector-General from 2002 until 2009; He was then appointed as the first ever Namibian Police Attache based at Pretoria in South Africa, accredited to the Republic of South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique from 2009 until 2012;”

Between 2013 to 2015, Maj. Gen. Embubulu served as the Chief of Security to the President of the Republic of Namibia.

In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Commissioner and appointed as Head of the Very Important Persons Protection Directorate (VIPPDir.)
