OTJIWARONGO, 28 MAR – The Grootfontein Municipality has parted ways with its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Charles Kariko.
The council on Wednesday announced in a media statement that the municipal council took the decision not to renew Kariko’s contract at its ordinary council meeting on Tuesday.
It said Kariko will step down on Thursday.
“The outgoing CEO this year will be turning 60 years and will be going on retirement later this year, hence the non-extension of his contract,” the statement said.
Kariko was appointed as chief executive officer on 01 March 2013.
Prior to that, he was the town engineer from February 2002.
Kariko held senior engineering positions at the former Tsumeb Corporation Limited, Afrox and a gold mine in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He was also Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Namibia Airports Company from 2009.
Kariko is a member of Namibia’s Engineering Professional Association.
“Mr Kariko has been a pillar of strength for the Grootfontein Municipality, where he oversaw and implemented a number of projects that will benefit the Grootfontein community,” said the statement.
It said it is not yet clear when the process of the recruitment of a new CEO will start.
