NKURENKURU — JAN 7, while gender base violence is so very high in Kavango west ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare which supposed to have vehicles at each of the 8 constituencies in the region but only have one vehicle which they share the entire whole region.
Some of the officials suggest that ministry minimize workshops on 2026/2027 budget and focuses on procurement of vehicles for Constituencies country wide and Namibia Daily News is in position of the letter the region wrote to then Executive Director Uiras through Director Andjamba in 2019 requesting for vehicles up to date the region never got responded to up today.
Kavango Region was the biggest region of the 14 regions of Namibia until it was split into the Kavango East and Kavango West region in 2013. The two regions have 14 Constituencies in which all Constituencies has Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare offices.
No Government Vehicles allocated to all these 12 Constituencies and only find few vehicles at Rundu and Nkurenkuru Regional offices. Therefore, the community feels that the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare concentrating much on workshops or training.
The money or budget that the Ministry get, are being spend too much on workshops and leaving the clients vulnerable. The community are requesting the Minister to minimize spending on workshops budget 2026/2027 and instead concentrate on budgeting for vehicles.
It doesn’t make sense staff members attending too many workshops and once they come back to their respective offices, they sit in their offices doing nothing.
The Community members also complained about Ministry staff members always absent in offices because of attending workshop, once they are back, they can’t assist clients because of no transport.
Now, what’s the purposes of workshops? Those Directors in the Ministry should take clients at heart not only thinking about their S&T and which looks like conflict of interest.
Lack of vehicles impacting a specific service at the Constituencies level in Kavango West and Kavango East regions. In some areas, such as Kavango West & East you find poor state of roads (deep sand) it needs a 4×4 vehicles.
Lack of adequate Government vehicles hinders the staff members ability to perform their duties effectively particulars in the field work, emergencies cases and outreach.
The community are appealing the current Minister of Gender Equality to set workshops budget 2026/2027 aside and prioritise on buying new vehicles for Constituencies, she should reduce these too many workshops which are not urgent issues.
The Ministry is there to render services delivery to its people and not giving money on attending too much workshop year in year out, the staff members would not operate effectively without necessary vehicles.
The Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare is from this region, and she is aware of the vast of both Kavango regions.
Workshop 2026/2027 must fall and concentrate on buying vehicles for the whole Constituencies country wide.
