ABUJA, Sept. 3 — At least 20 suspected terrorists were killed, and some of their collaborators arrested, during recent clearance operations by Nigerian troops across the northeast region, according to local media.
The week-long raids by air and ground troops targeted the hideouts of the suspected terrorists in the northeastern states of Borno and Yobe, between Aug. 23 and 30, the state-owned News Agency of Nigeria reported on Wednesday, quoting an unnamed military official.
Various arms and ammunition were recovered during the raids by troops, who also intercepted and arrested “several collaborators” of local terror groups while transporting over 242 bags of NPK fertilizer, the source was quoted to have said.

The troops also recovered AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, bombs, hundreds of 7.62 mm rounds, and large quantities of logistics items from the terrorists, the military source said, noting that “they also safely detonated improvised explosive devices during the clearance operations.”
“The offensives disrupted insurgent supply chains, denying terrorists freedom of action and enabling safer socioeconomic activities in the region,” the source added. (Xinhua)
