WINDHOEK, July 10 — On Sunday, July 9, 2023, an important discovery was made in the Kalkfeld area at Otjombonde farm, where human skeletal remains were found by a cattle herder.
According to Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga of the Namibian Police, the discovery occurred around 09:00 when the unidentified herder was grazing his cattle in the vicinity and stumbled upon the remains.
In response to the report, the police promptly visited the scene and confirmed the presence of a very old human skull, along with various bones including ribs, legs, arms, and the backbone. Additionally, a size 6 black plakkie (a type of footwear) and an old blue jacket were discovered, as well as adult women’s underwear. These remains have been transferred to the Otjiwarongo police mortuary for further examination and handling.
Ongoing investigations are currently being conducted by the police to shed light on this matter.
The discovery of the human skeletal remains has generated significant interest and discussion within the Kalkfeld community. Some residents express concerns that the remains may belong to a missing person, while others speculate that they could be of a much older origin. The police have yet to release any information regarding the age or gender of the individual whose remains were found.
