SEOUL, March 29 — Two people were killed on Tuesday in an explosion that occurred at an industrial waste treatment facility in South Korea, according to Yonhap news agency.
The explosion took place at around 10:24 a.m. local time (0124 GMT) while workers were welding an outdoor tank at the facility in Ansan, some 40 km south of the capital Seoul.
Two subcontract workers, both in their 50s, were killed after being struck by splinters from the explosion.
A fire broke out from the tank after the explosion, but it was extinguished soon by firefighters. No leakage of toxic waste was reported.
Police and the fire authorities were investigating the exact cause of the incident. – XINHUA
