CHICAGO, March 22 — U.S. Grammy-winning R&B star R. Kelly returned to court Friday for a hearing on multiple counts of criminal sexual abuse at the Cook County Courthouse in the U.S. city of Chicago, local media reported.
At the hearing, Kelly’s attorney Steven Greenberg asked the judge to delay a ruling on the singer’s request to fly to Dubai in April to perform at several concerts.
Without explaining the reason for the delay, Greenberg just said in court he wanted to provide additional material to the judge.
Kelly’s legal team filed a motion on Wednesday asking the court to grant Kelly permission to perform overseas.
The filing asserted that Kelly cannot find work anywhere in the United States amid the fallout from his criminal charges, so he needs to perform overseas to make money and cope with mounting financial problems, including child support, unpaid rent and legal fees.
The singer faces 10 counts of criminal sex abuse in Cook County for allegedly abusing three underage girls and a women over a dozen years.
Kelly is scheduled to appear in court for the next hearing on May 7. – XINHUA
