ONGWEDIVA, Sept. 27 – The Ongwediva Town Council says it will commence with the Indoor Residual Spraying Programme (IRSP) next month, as it has in the past proven to be effective in controlling malaria in Ongwediva.
Ongwediva Town Council spokesperson, Jackson Muma also said that the council covers a different part of the town every year.
“This programme has proven to be very effective because after it is carried out in a specific part of town, no malaria cases are reported in that area, which means it is working,” added Muma.
This year, the malaria vector control program is being carried out in areas such as New Reception, Sky Location, Mandume, Mkwanambwa, Efidi Proper, Prestige and Elyamabala Extension 16 and is expected to run from 02 October to 15 November 2017.
Ongwediva Town Council spokesperson, Jackson Muma, urges residents to check for card identification of the sprayers to ensure that they are valid, and thus avoid letting in strangers with ulterior motives into their homes.
“The aim of the spraying programme is to eliminate malaria in Ongwediva,” said Muma, adding that those were the areas malaria case were reported.
The team from the council who will be conducting the programme will be identifiable as they will wear overalls and carry cards identifying them as working for the programme.
Muma said residents should not let people who claim to be from the programme but who do not have the required identification, into their homes.
Furthermore, he urged the residents to cooperate with the officials who will be conducting the house-to-house spraying in order to ensure that all rooms are sprayed. – Maria Abraham
