MAHREZ LETS DOWN MAN CITY & AUBAMEYANG FIRES FOR ARSENAL

WINDHOEK, 9 OCT. – Algerian Riyad Mahrez missed a late penalty kick on Sunday as Manchester City dropped points against Liverpool while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a brace as Arsenal returned to impressive form.

The weekend’s action got underway on Friday night with Cameroonian Gaetan Bong’s Brighton beating Arthur Masuaku’s West Ham by a slender 1-0 margin to see the latter hovering just above the relegation zone in 15th place.

On Saturday 15 goals were scored across six games as Bournemouth trounced a ten-man Watford 4-0 and Ivorian Eric Bailly’s Manchester United fought from two goals behind to register a 3-2 win over Newcastle in two of the weekend’s most exciting games.

It was a bad day at the office for the Nigerian duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi who saw their Leicester City side lose 2-1 to Idrissa Gueye’s Everton as they moved up the table to 11th place.

Ivorian Sol Bamba saw his Cardiff side suffer a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat to Tottenham as did Crystal Palace, by the same scoreline, to Wolves despite having Jordan Ayew, Jeffery Schlupp (both Ghana) and Ivorian Wilfried Zaha in their side.

Sunday is where all the drama took place with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang coming off the bench to bag a brace in Arsenal’s 5-1 thumping of Fulham while Chelsea beat Gabonese Mario Lemina’s Southampton 3-0.

The biggest talking point of the weekend was Algerian Riyad Mahrez who missed an 85th-minute penalty for Man City as they drew 0-0 against Liverpool who had Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Senegal’s Sadio Mane in their starting line-up.

The results from Sunday see Man City still at the top of the table, on the same points as both Chelsea and Liverpool but only above them because of a superior goal difference.
