WINDHOEK, 21 SEP – A group of 44 women of the Women and Men Network Against Crime from the Khomas Region successfully completed training on Introduction to Social Business and Innovation.
The training took place from 03 to 20 September in the Moses Garoëb Constituency.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training here on Friday, Global Institute Director of Research and Innovation in Namibia, Dr Jana Jagodick said they questioned how they could make jobs sustainable and what type of training they would need for underprivileged communities.
“We were thinking about who the people are that suffer and still do a great job and what we could do for them, their children and families. That’s how we chose the women from the network,” noted Jagodick.
She explained that the women were trained in social business because they deal with communities, thus the training they got was on how to plan weddings and parties, how to recycle plastic bottles and to generate money by charging a cell phone with a solar charger they received at the end of their training.
“So we did a very practical engagement by showing them exactly what to do and how to do it and how much money they can make,” Jagodick added.
The Women and Men Network Against Crime received a donation of 44 solar cell phone chargers from the Windhoek Auas Rotary Club to use as part of their business and training of other members of the group.
Councillor of Moses Garoëb Constituency, Martin David at the event encouraged them to train others so that they too can be empowered, have jobs and contribute to the country’s economy.
One member of the network said the solar cell phone charger will come in handy when they have to be in contact with law enforcement dealing with crime in their communities.
The training was conducted by lecturers from the University of Namibia and the Namibia University of Science and Technology, together with Jagodick.
