Bishop Nambala sworn in as IUM chancellor

WINDHOEK, AUG. 30 – Bishop Shekutaamba Vaino Nambala of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia was sworn in as the third chancellor of the International University of Namibia (IUM) here on Wednesday.
In his acceptance speech, Nambala pledged to continue the legacy of his predecessors by promoting and taking the interest of the university higher than ever before.
He emphasised that the purpose, aims and objectives of IUM is not to compete, but to mobilise the institutions to do best in offering education.
“In modern universities one is taught many subjects for different career purposes depending on the university’s aims and objectives. Hence, IUM has its own unique track of courses to fulfil its national and international focus.”
Nambala noted that the existing courses and levels of training currently offered at IUM in business administration, finance, human resources, business and other areas that warrant management are testimony that the university is ready and prepared for the academic world.
At the same occasion, the outgoing Chancellor, Bishop Emeritus Episcopus Kleopas Dumeni said IUM made the right choice in choosing his successor as Nambala is a man with an outstanding record in society both academically, religiously and politically.
Speaking at the same occasion, IUM Founder, Dr David Namwandi said the inauguration befits Bishop Nambala as he is an international educator, social activist and a person who is well-versed on Namibia’s pervasive search and struggle against poverty for the upliftment of Namibians especially in marginalised, disadvantaged and disempowered communities.
He noted that the university looks forward to his leadership and to benefit from his vast wisdom and broad experience.
Current Minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, Bishop Emeritus Zephania Kameeta was the first chancellor of IUM.- NAMPA
