NIP office officially opened

WINDHOEK, Aug. 28 – The Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) head offices were officially been opened by President Hage Geingob on Friday.

NIPs new head offices will provide a sound foundation for the NIP through its countrywide network of laboratories, and in its pursuit of providing quality medical laboratory services, Geingob said.

“To touch on the issue of pathology and its importance in the field of medicine: Pathology is a branch of medical science which primarily concerns the cause, origin and nature of disease. It involves the examination of tissues, organs and bodily fluid like blood in order to study and diagnose disease or to monitor effectiveness of treatment,” Geingob said.

He added that the broad field of pathology has developed over a period that spans more than 200 years as a medical specialty, and as clinical testing evolved,  clinical pathology or laboratory medicine came to be included in this medical practice.

It is widely believed that pathologists and other laboratory physicians and scientists can make a difference in driving the progress of evidence-based and individualized medical care in a world where health-care systems are becoming increasingly unsustainable due to rising costs.

“The NIP therefore has an integral role to play in advancing cutting edge medical research and treatment in Namibia,” Geingob said.

Through NIPs network of 40 laboratories countrywide , NIP is providing a crucial service. – Jonsey Douglass
