WINDHOEK, 22 MAY – Volunteers participating in Friday’s national clean-up should differentiate between recyclable and non-recyclable waste to reduce the amount of waste taken to landfills.
This was said by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in a statement issued Tuesday, which also said people should use the clear and black refuse bags provided to differentiate between the two different types of waste.
The waste to be put in the clear bags includes glass, plastic, paper, cardboard packaging, boxes, tins, cans and all types of foam and foil.
All other waste, including nappies, small batteries, food scraps, clothing, fabrics and garden waste, are to be put in the black refuse bags.
“The waste collected in the black refuse bags will be transported to the nearest waste disposal site,” the statement said.
Rent-a-Drum, in collaboration with other business participants, will coordinate pick-up points and transportation for the clear bags.
