WINDHOEK, 02 MAY – Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço will arrive in Windhoek on Thursday for a three-day State visit.
This will be Lourenço’s maiden visit to Namibia since he became president on 26 September 2017.
According to a media statement issued by the Namibian Presidency on Wednesday, President Hage Geingob and his Angolan counterpart will on Thursday discuss matters of mutual interest, followed by a media briefing.
A state banquet will be held in honour of the visiting president later that evening.
Lourenço will be the guest of honour at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Cassinga Massacre to be held at Heroes’ Acre in Windhoek on Friday.
Cassinga Day is commemorated in remembrance of the attack by the apartheid forces of South Africa on the Cassinga Refugee Camp in southern Angola on 04 May 1978.
During the visit, Lourenço will also witness the renaming of Ausspannplatz Circle to Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto Square in honour of the first president of the Republic of Angola.
Lourenço and his delegation will depart for Luanda, Angola on Saturday.
