Kudus stun Wanderers at home

WINDHOEK, 15 APR – A well organised Kudus Rugby Club stunned Wanderers 26-25 in their fifth fixture of the 2018 Rugby Premier League at the Wanderers Sports Field here on Saturday.
The home side opened the scoring as early as the second minute through a try by Rudie Pretorius, but Dirk von Weidtz missed the conversion.
Wanderers doubled their score in the fifth minute through Dirk de Meyer but Von Weidtz was still unable to convert from the spot.
Wanderers still could not find their luck with spot kicks, as Pretorius missed a penalty in the 14th minute.
Kudus managed to put points on the score sheet when Ivo Croza scored a drop-kick in the 28th minute.
Walvis-Bay based Kudus levelled the score in the 37th minute after brilliant play by Nash Grant, who scored their first try of the match which was converted by Aureliou Plato.
With only a few seconds before half-time, Lorenco Calaca of Kudus ran in another try and Plato converted to go into the break with a 17-10 lead.
In the second half, Wanderers kept Kudus on their toes, as Pretorius ran in a try but Von Weidtz still failed to convert.
Kudus extended their lead with a Plato penalty kick in the 49th minute.
Wanderers, who seemed more determined to win the game, managed to break through a resilient Kudus defense, when Dan von Somis scored their fourth try but Francois Wiese could not convert.
With just 30 minutes left, the score was 20-all.
Kudus again managed to take the lead through a penalty in the 64th minute by Plato, but their lead was cut short as the home side ran in their fifth try in the 75th minute by Driaan Vorster. Von Weidtz again failed to convert.
With regular time gone, Kudus caused quite an upset when they put the final nail in their rivals coffin through an additional time penalty by Plato to win by one point.
This was Kudus’ first win away from home, and coach Abraham Farmer was a happy man.
“We worked as a team today and the boys showed they were ready to fight for every point, as this win now moves us up on the log standing. We are now going to work hard for our next fixture with Western Suburbs at home, because a win against them will put us second on the log standings,” he said.
