ADEN, Yemen, Sept. 6 — Three Yemeni soldiers were killed and 11 others wounded when an explosive device detonated against a pro-government military patrol in the southern province of Abyan on Friday, military and medical sources said.
The attack occurred in Mudiyah district as the patrol was conducting routine operations, according to a military official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The roadside bomb struck one of the military vehicles, killing three soldiers. A second vehicle in the convoy then crashed into the bomb-damaged vehicle, leaving 11 others wounded.
A medical source at a government-run hospital in Abyan said some of the wounded were in critical condition. The blast was the latest in a string of attacks on pro-government forces in Yemen’s southern provinces.
No group has yet claimed responsibility. Yemen has been mired in a devastating civil war since 2014, with the Houthis battling the internationally recognized government.
Al-Qaeda has taken advantage of the unrest to expand its presence, particularly in the south. (Xinhua)
