TOKYO, Nov. 18 — A small airplane crashed in Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on Tuesday, killing three people on board, local media reported.
Fire department officials received an emergency call at around 10:45 a.m. local time, reporting that what appeared to be a small aircraft had gone down and was emitting black smoke in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, public broadcaster NHK reported.
A search with police and firefighters found what appeared to be the aircraft and three bodies at around 12:15 p.m. in the mountains near the border with Oita Prefecture, the report said.
The plane, a single-engine propeller Cirrus SR20, was scheduled to take off from Saga airport in neighboring Saga Prefecture at around 10:13 a.m. and arrive at an airport in Osaka Prefecture at 12:43 p.m., according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Saga airport office.
