Windhoek, 16 May 2024 || The dream of the Namibia Schools Sport Union Boys Under 18 National Football Team to participate in the Football Schools World Cup in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, China, from May 17 to 27, 2024, has become a reality thanks to a generous sponsorship of N$400,000 from Zhong Mei Engineering Group.
The team, consisting of 16 players and 7 officials, received additional sponsorship from the Dalian Municipal Government of China, which will provide free accommodation and food during their 12-day stay in Dalian.
The event aims to offer an important platform for young athletes as well as an opportunity for cultural exchange and friendship enhancement between China and Namibia.
Zhong Mei Engineering Group has been highly recognized by Namibian employers and local residents through their completed projects, providing about 5000 job opportunities and cultivating outstanding technical talents in Namibia’s construction field.
Mr. Jiang Chongyuan, Managing Director of Zhong Mei Engineering Group, expressed pleasure at being able to support the Namibia School Sports Union and emphasized the significance of the event for the growth of young athletes and cultural unity.
During the farewell reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy, Ambassador Zhao Weiping assured continued support for Namibian youth sports development and thanked Mr. Jiang Chongyuan for securing funding for the team’s international trip.
Mr. Theofilus Nuugulu, Chairperson of Namibia Schools Sport Union, expressed gratitude to the Ambassador and Zhong Mei Engineering Group, promising that the team would represent Namibia well and urging them to exhibit good behavior during the trip.
The sponsorship not only fulfills the team’s dream but also strengthens bilateral ties and promotes sportsmanship and cultural exchange between the two nations.- Namibia Daily News
