KATIMA MULILO, May 31 – A 28-year-old Zambian man escaped from police custody at Kongola in the Katima Mulilo district at around 17h00 on Friday, 27 May.
Zambezi police spokesman, Inspector Kisco Sitali, said the suspect ran off when he was taken outside at the police cells to collect a blanket hanging there. He was awaiting trial on a charge of possession of huntable game without a permit.
Inspector Sitali added housebreaking dominated weekend crime reports in Katima Mulilo and efforts are being made to supplement the crime prevention initiatives.
He warned the community to refrain from buying stolen goods as this creates a market for stolen items. Buyers of stolen property could be arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods. – Namibia Daily News
