RUNDU, 13 MAY – The Women Embracing Change Namibia (WECN) organisation aimed at uplifting, motivating and educating women, was officially launched here on Saturday.
Speaking to Nampa on the sidelines of the launch, founder and president of the organisation, Josephine Ndara, said WECN travels mainly to rural areas to listen to problems women are faced with to try and change their circumstances.
“We give counseling services as well, where we really want women to open up about problems facing them. We also help them create small projects or businesses such as tailoring and baking cakes that can assist them with generating an income,” Ndara said.
Helping the needy in various regions of the country, she explained, is something she always wanted to do, thus she formed the organisation in 2016 for that purpose.
Ndara also runs another non-profit organisation called ‘Immanuel Foundation Namibia’ that caters for orphans and vulnerable children as well as widows. She owns a transport and tour company.
Swapo-Party Women’s Council Secretary, Eunice Ipinge is WECN patron.
Various speakers made presentations that women could benefit from such as women in business; women embracing change; what God expects from women; women abuse; what causes divorce; “let go of the past”; and leadership.
Namibian political analyst and former executive director for the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management, Professor Joseph Diescho spoke on women abuse.
The keynote speaker was Dimakatso Malwela, who is the chief executive officer of Women of Value South Africa and chairperson of Women in Tourism for the Southern African Development Community.
Ndara said it was important to have her at the launch, because Malwela is going to assist women in business in Namibia to network with other women in South Africa and beyond.
