ONGWEDIVA, 25 SEP – A 36-year-old woman will appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of assault after she allegedly threw hot water at her stepdaughter, severely injuring her.
The commander of the police station at Onayena, Warrant Officer Natanael Haiyaka on Tuesday told Nampa they are investigating the incident at Oniipa village which left the 10-year-old girl injured on 16 September.
He said the woman allegedly threw the hot water at her stepdaughter after the girl switched on the geyser at their home without her consent.
“The victim sustained burn wounds on her right buttock and thigh, as well as on her right forearm,” Haiyaka said.
The suspect did not take the girl to the hospital for medical treatment. She was instead taken to the hospital by her teachers after she complained of pain while at school a few days after the incident.
The child, who was a Grade 4 learner at the Heroes Private School near Ondangwa, has now been transferred to Panguleni Primary School in the Oshana Region, where her biological mother resides.
The suspect will face a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm read with the Domestic Violence Act No. 4 of 2003.
Her identity is being withheld as she is yet to appear before court.
