WINDHOEK, 09 OCT – A three-month-old baby, Teopoline Iyambo Shimonga died instantly after she was run over by a motor vehicle on the Monte Christo Road near Havana on Friday.
A weekend crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force on Monday said it is alleged that the mother and infant were dropped off by a taxi and while the mother attempted to cross the road with her child in her arms, they fell down in the middle of the road and an oncoming vehicle hit the victim.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
In another incident, Thembaletu Mcdonald Ei-Gowab, 22, died on the gravel road between Otjomuise 2 and Otjomuise 3 after he was allegedly stabbed to death with an unknown object in the face on Sunday around 02h00.
It is alleged that a group of seven boys were heading to their homes in Otjomuise 3 after a quarrel at a bar when a pick-up vehicle, a white Ford Ranger started chasing them and bumped the victim.
The vehicle stopped and its occupant started to attack the victim and stabbed him with an unknown object in the face.
A 22-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon, while police investigations continue.
In an unrelated matter, 60-year-old Cecilia Namutenya Shivute allegedly hanged herself on Sunday at around 21h00 with a piece of cloth in a corrugated iron room at her house at Iikokola village in the Tsandi Constituency of the Omusati Region.
Her grandchildren discovered her body. No foul play is suspected and no suicide note was found at the scene, whereas her next of kin were informed.
Further, 82-year-old Otto Eino allegedly committed suicide on Saturday at 11h00 at Oniimwandi village in Olukonda by hanging himself with a rope from the roof of a hut at his house.
Eino’s granddaughter discovered his body and family were informed of his death.
Lovisa Petrus, 17, allegedly also committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope from a tree branch at the family homestead on Saturday at about 20h00 at Ohamautsi village in the Anamulenge Constituency.
No foul play is suspected and no suicide note was left behind.
