Three men arrested for illegal hunting in Namib-Naukluft Park

SWAKOPMUND, 16 OCT (NAMPA) – Three men were arrested on Monday in the Walvis Bay District of the Namib-Naukluft Park for illegal hunting and transportation of three Oryx carcasses without a permit and possession of a firearm without a license.
The suspects aged 57 and 28 were arrested at about 13h38 in possession of the game meat valued at N$19 500.
A report issued on Tuesday by Erongo Crime Investigations Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said the three now face charges of illegal hunting of huntable game, possession of a firearm without a license and transportation of game meat without a permit.
They transported the meat in a rented white Toyota 4×4 pick-up vehicle with registration number HH 94 BS GP from Walvis Bay, which was also impounded.
The three are expected to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, four men who were arrested on Saturday for theft out of a motor vehicle at the same coastal town, appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Three of them will be sentenced on 22 October. The fourth accused was acquitted, but was re-arrested on two warrants of arrest for outstanding cases in other regions.
They are Herold Ipinge, 29; Immanuel Junior, 28; Ian Harding, 26, and Werner Iiyambo, 29, who was acquitted.
The accused used an unknown object to break open the South African tourists’ vehicle while it was parked at the Lagoon, and stole property worth N$24 800 on Saturday.
All items except for N$4 600 cash were recovered.
