Thirteen students receive bursaries

WINDHOEK, 26 MAY  – Thirteen students from different fields of study received bursaries from the Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund here on Thursday.
First-year students from fields such as emergency medical care, education, science and chemistry signed the bursary contracts as they became MVA Fund ambassadors.
One of the students, Johanna Shiimi studying physiotherapy at the University of Namibia (UNAM), thanked the organisation for opening doors in their study lives.
“Plants need water to grow and we just received that, so we hope to make you proud and be better to be able to change the world,” Shiimi said.
Another student, Matheus Mukushu encouraged grant recipients to never waste the opportunity given, as many applicants could not get this chance.
Ten of the beneficiaries are under 21 and their parents signed the contracts on their behalf.
One of the beneficiaries, Lilli Paulus’s parent appreciated the assistance from the MVA Fund, saying it has removed some of the burden on their shoulders.
“I couldn’t imagine where we could’ve gotten the tuition fees for Lilli’s education, and now that we got assistance, studying is all that is left,” he said.
MVA Fund acting Chief Executive Officer, Phillip Nghifititeko emphasised that it is not a privilege to get the bursary and that it takes discipline to succeed.
“It is in line with our strategy to assist the government in building capacity in emergency care for sustainable rehabilitation and therapy bursaries were awarded to complete the health management continuum in relation to the therapist-to-patient ratio,” Nghifititeko outlined.
He further added that some courses like education were funded due to the fact that those students lost their guardians in car accidents.
