OTJIWARONGO, 29 JULY – A 19-year-old boy on Sunday was arrested after he allegedly ran over a man at Okondjatu in the Okakarara Constituency.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Sunday the suspect faces four charges after allegedly running over the pedestrian, who died in the accident, and fleeing the scene.
“He ran him over on the road adjacent to the Okondjatu police station with a pick-up and drove away at a high speed,” Mbeha said.
The driver was arrested on the Okondjatu-Otjinene road shortly after the accident.
The charges against the suspect are culpable homicide; failure to render assistance to the victim; failure to establish injuries sustained by the victim; and failure to report the accident to the police.
He will appear in the Okakarara Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
