SPEC calls for backing of Geingob from SPYL
KATIMA MULILO, Aug. 27 – Deputy Secretary of Swapo Party Elders Council (SPEC) Mary Masule urged SPYL to endorse President Hage Geingob in the upcoming 6th Swapo Party Congress as it is important to have one center of power. Masule advised the Youth League to emulate the Elders Council’s decision to endorse President Hage Geingob as the sole Presidential candidate when party members meet for the 6th Swapo Party Congress slated for November later this year.
Masule told the gathering of youth that it is vital to maintain one center of power, which in turn makes it easy for better governance. June’s Swapo Party Elders Council Congress which took place in Outapi of Omusati region endorsed President Hage Geingob as the sole Presidential candidate.
According to history of the ruling Swapo Party, the Elders Council and the Youth League are the most influential organs in the movement. The President has already been endorsed by twelve (12) regional conferences out of a possible fourteen (14) regions of the country, as the sole Presidential candidate for the congress.
The only regions that have not yet endorsed Geingob so far are Oshikoto and Omaheke. However, according to sources Omaheke remain behind Geingob while Oshikoto region is divided.
Swapo Party Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba was expected to arrive this morning for the official closing of the congress today. – Robert Maseka
