KIGALI, Oct. 8 — Rwanda on Tuesday launched its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, a roadmap designed to protect nature, restore ecosystems, and preserve the country’s unique biodiversity.
Unveiled in Kigali, the capital, the strategy will be implemented from 2025 to 2030 and focuses on reforestation projects and other initiatives that promote eco-tourism and sustainable natural resource management.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Environment Bernadette Arakwiye said the strategy “represents a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.”
According to the Ministry of Environment, more than 65 percent of Rwandans depend on sectors linked to agriculture, forestry, and tourism.
Arakwiye said that the strategy aims to safeguard livelihoods while helping Rwanda meet global biodiversity targets, including the protection of 30 percent of land and marine areas by 2030. (Xinhua)
