WINDHOEK, FEB 24 – The discovery of yet another deep water oil discovery has implications on the Namibian economy that Minister of Mines and Energy Tom Alweendo has stressed as imperative to accentuate the livelihoods of the Namibian populace.
Namcor’s announcement of the discovery is sure to elevate interest in the country’s recent oil and gas discoveries within a period of a month, to fever pitch.
In a statement issued earlier today by the Mines and Energy Ministry, Alweendo emphasised the need to make sure that resources are utilised to the benefit of Namibian citizens.
Said Alweendo: “As stewards of our natural resources, it now demands from us that the resources are utilised to the benefit of the people. Indeed, the discoveries are additional strong bricks in the construction of the Namibian House, where no one feels left out. With these discoveries we can now clearly reimage a dynamic and diversified Namibian economy.”
He indicated that the discovery was evidence of how Namibia’s mineral’s play a part in establishing the country as an investment destination.
“The oil discovery, hot on the heels of the Shell discovery, is another proof that Namibia s indeed a great destination to invest in. ”
