July 14 – In a significant statement, President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia emphasized that the Government and the Church are not in competition but rather complement each other in their service to the people.
President Hichilema highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Government and the Church in various areas, including health, education, and social justice, with a shared commitment to promoting values of equity, equality, and inclusiveness.
During a meeting with the national leadership of the Seventh Day Adventist, led by Dr. Tommy Namitondo, President Hichilema urged the Church to continue playing a prominent role in fostering national unity.
The President also called upon the Church to impart Christian values to the youth from an early age, enabling them to recognize the dangers of corruption and other crimes.
“Corruption remains a detrimental force that deprives our people of vital resources. Our government is fully committed to combating this vice, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations,” President Hichilema emphasized.
Addressing the issue of debt, which has posed significant challenges to the nation’s economy, President Hichilema expressed gratitude to the Church for their support in efforts towards debt restructuring. He acknowledged that reducing debt burdens would free up resources to address other pressing issues that affect citizens, as a thriving economy is essential for a well-functioning society. ~Namibia Daily News
