REHOBOTH, 08 JUN – PC Blue Boys defeated Southern Stream First Division Coastal Stream log leaders, Flamingoes 3-2 in a Round 7 match played on Wednesday in Walvis Bay, completing a double over their rivals.
The victory saw third-placed Blue Boys close the gap to two points, with Flamingoes topping the log with 10 points after seven matches played.
The team in blue and white took the lead as early as the seventh minute after Mervin ||Areseb opened the scoring.
Two minutes after the restart Blue Boys hit the net again through the boot of Wakendisa Kahimise to make the score 2-0.
In the 17th minute, Blue Boys extended their lead through Shemuvalula Gabriel.
Just before the break, Flamingoes pulled one back through Elvin |Uirab in hopes of catching Blue Boys after half-time.
Ten minutes into the second half, Flamingoes reduced the deficit after |Uirab scored his second goal to make it 3-2 and revived hopes of a comeback.
It was, however, not to be as Blue Boys held on for a well-deserved victory.
Blue Boys coach, Christy ||Guruseb on Wednesday said they could have won with a bigger margin had his players converted the more than eight goal scoring chances.
“The strikers lacks composure when faced with a goal scoring opportunity,” he said, adding that they are still a team in progress and working on their defence so as not to concede silly goals.
He said they are fighting hard to win the stream to be in the SSFD promotional play-off against the Inland Stream winners for a berth in the Namibia Premier League.
“In every game we will fight like it is our last game and will not take anything for granted,” ||Guruseb said.
