REHOBOTH, 28 MAR – The Omaheke Region made changes to its technical team for the 2018 The Namibian Newspaper Cup, following the resignation of former head coach Danzyl Bruwer last month due to personal reasons.
The annual sports event will be held from Friday to Monday in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, Omaheke League chairperson, Ludwig ‘Croocks’ Nunuheb said the changes will not affect the way the team has prepared so far.
“Although we made changes to the technical team, it won’t affect the team. In actual fact, most of the guys have been with the team since we started with preparations, so it’s just some roles that needed to be changed and swopped,” he said.
Nunuheb said the focus of the team is still the same: bringing the cup to Omaheke again.
The eastern region won the inaugural event in Windhoek in 2001, in Otjiwarongo in 2002, and in 2009 in Windhoek.
“As we speak, the team is having a morning session and will play a friendly match against Rundu-based Namibia Premier League team Rundu Chiefs later today before we hit the road to Katima Mulilo,” Nunuheb remarked.
Omaheke was drawn in Group B along with Omusati, host region Zambezi and last year’s runners-up, Erongo.
Otjozondjupa won last year.
